Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 26, 2026

Set Default Search Engine is a Chrome extension that lets you choose which supported search engine handles your searches. This policy explains what the extension and this website do with information.

01

Overview

The extension does not operate an account system or a server and does not send your information to its developer. It stores your selected search engine in Chrome on your device and uses Chrome's declarative network request feature to redirect supported search result pages to that engine.

Your search query is sent to the search provider that ultimately displays your results. Each provider handles that query under its own privacy policy.
02

Information used by the extension

The extension uses the following information only to provide its search selection feature:

The extension does not request your name, email address, account credentials, precise location, or browsing history for collection. It does not include advertising, analytics, or tracking code.

03

Search providers

When a search is redirected, the selected provider receives the resulting request, which can include your search terms and ordinary connection data such as your IP address and browser details. Supported providers include Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Qwant, Perplexity, Startpage, Yandex, and Brave.

These providers are independent services. Their privacy policies and data practices apply after your browser connects to them. The extension's developer does not receive the search query through the extension.

04

Website and analytics

This website does not ask you to create an account, does not use advertising or analytics, and does not set cookies. The page loads fonts from Google Fonts; your browser makes a request to Google's font service, which may receive standard request information such as your IP address and browser details. Google's privacy policy applies to that request.

05

Sharing and retention

The extension developer does not receive or retain information collected by the extension. Your selected engine remains in Chrome's local extension storage until you change it, remove the extension, or clear the browser's extension data. Search providers may retain search requests under their own policies.

06

Your choices

You can select another provider at any time by opening the extension popup. You can stop the extension from redirecting searches by disabling or uninstalling it in chrome://extensions. Uninstalling the extension also removes its locally stored selection from Chrome.

07

Children

The extension is a general-purpose browser utility and is not designed to collect personal information from children.

08

Policy changes

This policy may be updated if the extension or website changes. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was most recently revised.
