Set Default Search Engine is a Chrome extension published by an independent developer. This Privacy Policy explains how the extension handles information.

What the extension does

Set Default Search Engine adds a search-engine picker to the browser and allows you to choose between supported search engines, including Google, Bing, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo.

When you perform a search, the browser sends the request directly to the search engine you selected. Set Default Search Engine does not proxy or route your search queries through a developer-operated server.

Data stored on your device

The extension stores your selected search-engine preference locally in your browser using Chrome’s chrome.storage API.

The extension may also temporarily store the search engine selected for the current tab in order to provide the extension’s functionality.

This information remains in your browser and is not transmitted to the developer’s servers.

What we do not collect

Set Default Search Engine does not:

• collect or store your search queries;
• collect or store your browsing history;
• collect your personal information through the extension;
• use analytics or usage telemetry;
• use advertising or tracking technologies;
• require an account;
• sell your information; or
• share your information with third parties.

Third-party search engines

When you use Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, or another supported search engine, your request is sent directly to that service.

Those services may independently collect and process information such as search queries, IP addresses, cookies, browser information, device information, or other technical information.

Their processing is governed by their own privacy policies and terms of service.

This Privacy Policy applies only to Set Default Search Engine and does not govern third-party search engines.

New Tab

If the New Tab feature is enabled, a new tab may load google.com in your browser.

That request is made directly by your browser to Google. Set Default Search Engine does not operate a server through which this request is routed and does not receive or store information from that request.

Permissions

The extension uses Chrome permissions required for its functionality, including:

• Storage — to remember your selected search-engine preference.
• Declarative Net Request — to apply the extension’s search-engine selection functionality.

These permissions are not used to collect or transmit your search queries or personal information to the developer.

Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Extension.

Because the Extension does not require an account and does not collect personal information on our servers, we do not knowingly maintain personal information about children.

How to delete local data

You can remove the extension from Chrome at any time. Removing the extension removes its locally stored extension data from Chrome.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the extension or its data practices.

If material changes are made, the “Last updated” date will be updated accordingly.
